ClubVentos - Longboard Festival 2018

Jericoacoara Longboard Festival 2018
6th - 8th of April

In early April Jericoacoara hosted the first stage of the Brazilian Longboard Circuit, a series of surf competitions in the best locations in Brazil. This three-day event attracts the best Brazilian longboard riders, but the feel around Jeri is more of celebration and festival than 'competition' and features a live music and art exhibitions.

The waves in Jericoacoara are formed by a point break, which creates very mellow and long lasting waves. The quality of wave attracts professional longboarders, but these waves are just as good for beginners to learn on and progress very quickly.  It was fantastic to see such incredible talent at our local spot, especially for a sport that is often eclipsed by windsurfing and kitesurfing here. It goes to show how great this part of Brazil is as a watersports mecca.

The standout competitor of the event had to be Chloé Calmon, who dominated the women's category to be crowned champion and received the biggest point total of the event, 19.67 points out of a possible 20. A shock in the men's event saw local Antonio Victor out-surf the big names such as Jeferson Silva, Jefson Silva and Carlos Bahia. His local knowledge and understanding of the waves proved to be the difference as Antonio cruised to victory.
